- Million Words Challenge!
-
During the 2018-2019 school year, Longfellow Elementary 4th and 5th grade students read 29,112,559 Words in the Million Words Challenge! It was an amazing year, with many students discovering new genres, topics, and authors to read.
After a break from the challenge, I think the 2021-2022 school year will have our greatest readers yet! I can't wait to see them top that 29 Million word mark!
Our theme for the Million Words Challenge this year is "Climbing Mt. Readmore Together"!
Interested 3rd, 4th and 5th graders this year will each receive their own log sheets to track their progress as they read towards a million!
Students will read any book they choose, log the book, find and record the word count of the book, and answer a few short questions to demonstrate understanding of what they read.
EVERY WORD COUNTS!!
Prizes are awarded for goal levels over 100,000 words (at 100,000, 250,000, 500,000, 750,000 and 1 millions words read, students will receive prizes.
Students who reach the 1 million mark will be treated to a formal luncheon at the end of the school year!
